A common question we get asked is should I come to see a Chiropractor or Sports Massage Therapist? Or is it beneficial to see both?

Sports massage and chiropractic care differ in many ways. Chiropractors focus on aligning the spine and joints. They also work with the body’s natural ability to heal itself by freeing the Central Nervous System. Whereas, Sports Massage Therapists focus on soft tissue injuries and target muscular problems specifically.

However, when used together, they can work to achieve optimum results. One way they work well together is to have a sports massage treatment before chiropractic. The sports massage will relieve any tension in the muscles, tendons and ligaments and manipulate the soft tissue. This gets the body “warmed up” for chiropractic treatment and it is likely that the adjustments made will be more effective and longer-lasting.

Having both chiropractic and massage treatment is also effective as you are alleviating your aches and pains in more than one way. Your muscles, tendons and ligaments will affect your joints and spine (and vice versa). Combining both types of treatment can therefore complement each other. It may sound obvious, but having treatment from both specialities will help you to achieve your goals much sooner. While a chiropractor can work to resolve joint problems, a sports massage therapist can work to resolve soft tissue problems. Together, they can optimise your overall health and well-being.
